Methodology

more to come...

The Architecture Development Method is the defacto industry standard approach for developing an enterprise architecture. The ADM is defined within The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF). TOGAF is maintained by the The Open Group. consists of eight phases of analysis and implementation to bring you from the start to the completed, implemented enterprise architecture. The ADM is a generic methodology, which means it's not geared toward any particular set of deliverables. You can even use ADM to design an enterprise architecture based on another framework. (And, in fact, TOGAF provides guidance for doing just that.)

IBM Patterns for e-business (Patterns) provides a group of re-usable assets to aid in the design and development of modern web-based applications. Patterns are particularly useful building applications that re-engineer business processes, enhance communications, and improve collaboration across organisational boundaries. Modern e-business applications need to interact with a diverse range of stake-holders, including: customers, shareholders, employees, vendors, suppliers, and partners.

A pattern is the description of a recurring solution to a standard problem. As a methodology, patterns provide a simple and consistent means for translating business goals and imperatives into IT-driven solutions. Patterns provide the following benefits:

  • Capture the best practices and knowledge of experienced architects which can be quickly reused in new projects
  • Facilitate the re-use of intellectual capital such as reference architectures, frameworks, etc.

Patterns address the following challenges encountered by the modern organisation:
  • High degree of integration with legacy systems within the enterprise and with systems outside the enterprise
  • Solutions need to reach users faster without sacrificing quality
  • Address an acute shortage of the key skills needed to develop quality solutions
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are critical
  • Need to adapt to rapidly changing technologies and dramatically reduced product cycles

Patterns, by design, provide 80 percent of the most common customer requirements. Leaving Tao Consulting Practitioners to focus on the remaining 20 percent that is unique to your organisation.
