IT Business Value Assessment

TaoConsulting's Information Technology Business Value Assessment (BVA) is a methodology that allows you to develop a specific IT strategy based on the unique needs of your business. TaoConsulting consultants are adept in using analytic tools and frameworks that help to prioritise and analyse the impact of making a new IT investment, replacing an old IT system, or enhancing an existing IT system.

The Business Value Assessment (BVA) methodology, adopted by TaoConsulting, was originally developed by IBM to assist clients in the evaluation of an enterprise portal strategy and to establish a business justification of investing in an enterprise portal.

The BVA includes three modules involving onsite and offsite interviews, workshops and e-meetings. The entire business value assessment takes about three days over a four-week period, yielding significant benefits:

  • consensus among the line-of-business and IT management regarding the vision for the IT investment;
  • high-level cost and benefit analysis to define the value of the IT investment in financial terms;
  • solid business case to justify the IT investment and initiative in your organization.
TaoConsulting can leverage the BVA process to help you make the right technology investment and ensure you obtain maximum value from this investment.

Module 1: Business Value Interviews & Workshop

"What should our organization do with the proposed IT investment?"

TaoConsulting consultants work closely with your line-of-business managers to help you determine the best opportunities for the IT investment. Through on-site interviews we capture the unique business priorities of each line-of-business manager and an indication of measurable benefits that may be realised. We run a consensus building workshop, you assess initiatives in terms of measurable benefits compared to their ease of implementation. The discussions assist the stakeholders in reaching a shared understanding of the achievable benefits and implementation strategy.

Module 2: Business Value Demonstration

"What might the IT experience be for us?"

After completing the initial business value assessment, TaoConsulting consultants build a prototype of the initiative. This provides the end users with the opportunity to actually experience the benefits of the system, as well as better understand the potential of the initiative for your organization. In addition, the prototype may be used to demonstrate the business value of the IT investment to a wider audience.

Module 3: Business Case

"How can we financially justify our IT initiative?"

Using advanced data analysis tools TaoConsulting can assist your financial and technical analysts to estimate the investment costs in terms of infrastructure and personnel required to implement and operate the initiative. This is weighed against the potential benefits in terms of top and bottom line improvements. A detailed report outlining benefit areas, ROI opportunities, and cash flows is a great way to accelerate adoption of a portal initiative in your organization.
